Or is that really the case? The current form of our lives on earth is finite as we know things. Stars, galaxies, all this forms and dies in a mindless (as we currently understand things) dance of entropy vs. whatever turned entropy inside-out and into us (gravity, whatever that really is). Is the universe finite? We don’t know. Is it infinite? We also don’t know. Are there other universes (by the criteria of what we currently consider our universe to be) out there? We don’t know. If the universe is infinite, we can become so too – or near enough to not make much of a distinction compared to our lives now. What caused the big bang? Who knows – maybe it was an experiment. Maybe when you create baby universes in the lab, they blow a bubble in reality and become their own universe, if the conditions are right. Maybe we’re just a quantum computing substrate, an accidental phenomena created by the interaction of the calculations that should be able to compute any function in an instant – maybe it takes running an entire universe from birth to death in that instant to get your calculation back in that instant, i.e. it simulates everything until the answer pops up from the myriad random combinations physical elements of our universe goes through.
