Exactly why we cannot be complacent

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist dictatorship.

“It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he’s the one who proposed this national security force,” Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. “I’m just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may – may not, I hope not – but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism.”

Holy shit? Blackaphobia? Barackaphobia?

Wait, wait, what about the warrantless wiretapping, the Department of Homeland Security, CIA having a mandate to operate unanounced in other countries, the stripping away of rights enshrined in the Bill of Rights by the PATRIOT act…

Oh, we said we were going to ‘fight terror’ with those measures. Obama, on the other hand,

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” Obama said in July. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

The Obama transition team declined to comment on Broun’s remarks. But spokesman Tommy Vietor said Obama was referring in the speech to a proposal for a civilian reserve corps that could handle postwar reconstruction efforts such as rebuilding infrastructure – an idea endorsed by the Bush administration.

And for that, he is compared to Hitler. Bush invades two countries, one of which harbored a paramilitary force that attacked us, one that was just close by them, using a terrorist attack as the excuse to prosecute these invasions, much the way Hitler grabbed power after being democratically elected in Germany. But if a Democrat had made comparisons from Bush to Hitler, at the congressional level, it would have been pundit pack-rape instantly, and it wouldn’t have shown up in the news except to be mocked.

Oh, by the way, if having people employed by the government to help reconstruct our or other nations in times of crisis is Marxism, but giving billions (probably soon in the trillions) of dollars to failed American companies is Capitalism, exactly when did Earth orbit into bizarro world? Maybe we’ve all been secretly converted into antimatter or dark matter by some secret government project?
