figured out displacement mapping in blender. I’m even doing this for very specific reasons – in Scanning Electron Microscopy, your grey values are determined by height relative to your electron beam (aka ‘the probe’). So I can scan any reasonably microtextured surface and produce maps to do displacement in 3D rendering.
Why? I dunno, I’m sure it’ll come in handy at some point, and will be fun to do.
