What an amazing shot.

More amazing when you consider it’s over 108 years old. Digital photography still has some catching up to do, but I expect the newer full-frame sensors and matched glass will kick shit up to the next level. I hope to be able to upgrade to a full frame sensor in a year or two. I’m currently refining my techniques so I can start shooting stock photography. The HDR effects I can achieve should give me a jump on the average amateur. Knowredge is powaa!

To obtain a full-resolution TIFF scan of this image, do the following. Click onto the flickr link, then go down to the bottom of the description where it says “Persistent URL” which takes you to the LOC’s website in a new window or tab. Here’s where they try to trick you – you can order a physical reproduction for some cold hard credit (lets face it, cash is just portable, instant credit) with the text links on the page. To get your very own digital copy that they make these prints with, click on the thumbnail at the top, and then use the TIFF link to get your sometimes 100+ meg source image. Make sure you check the rights info for “Rights Info: No known restrictions on publication.” or similar before you apply pwnage to the image in a photochop app. You can do this for virtually every image in the Library of Congress archives. I’m going to print one of these images at 8×10 eventually to see how it comes out. I’ll follow up on that if I ever get around to it.
