Meanwhile, pro-democracy revolutions are springing up in muslim countries throughout the mid-east.
Mr Cameron suggested there would be greater scrutiny of some Muslim groups that get public money but do little to tackle extremism.
Pretty sure the police and anti-terrorism laws are supposed to tackle extremism, not folk spying on one another like secret police. Also conflating extremism with Islam is a pretty terrible thing to do, as extremism is nothing new, not invented by Muslims, and certainly not their exclusive purview, though groups who purport to identify as Islamic have been responsible for some of the more recent, spectacular forms.
Also not coincidental that Cameron is preaching this to a German crowd, and not actually in England, where recently the German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the exact same thing, that multiculturalism was failing.
This smacks of cultural imperialism, something neither Britain or Germany knows about nor with which they have any recent history.
There’s a billion and a half Muslims in the world, and vilifying Islam isn’t going to help cram down extremism among them. Remember that metaphor about not letting a few rotten apples spoil the whole bunch?
