Seen on Next Big Future. A microbot with micrometer-scale pincers grips nanotubes down to less than 100 nanometers in size, down even to tens of nanometers.
It’s seriously the size of a T-Rex compared to what they’re working with, but it’s exciting none the less. They’re using it to place nanotubes on AFM (atomic force microscope) tips to enhance z-depth scanning on atomic structures (the nanotube can fit down inside small holes or gratings where the enormous-by-comparison AFM tip cannot go).
Oh yeah, and some day I’ll get to play with toys like that. Whee!
