Late to the game again

Friday, May 1st, 2009

But glad I arrived – Star Guitar by the Chemical Brothers [embedding disabled]. Got turned on to it because [twitter]@libredegrasa sent me a link to the making-of video.

Which makes no freakin sense if you haven’t seen the actual video first. But hey, it’s about time the rhythmic nature of dance music got taken up into the visual arena. Mostly it’s just half-naked women writhing almost to the beat of the music (when edited well)…. and those are the better dance music videos. We’ll not get into the others, which involve really stupid 3d aliens and half-naked women not writhing to anything.

In other news, just about final on the Angry Pharmacist wordpress makeover. The actual working document is less than 50 megs short of a gig, almost 40 layers and full-on 16-bit color (getting a something less than 11×17 printed when I’m done).

keep an eye on these two, @rendezvous, an israeli electronic duo

Actual music + electronic orchestration! Not just a bassline that goes *wubwubwub* and a drumbeat. Pretty rough and unpolished right now, but the potential is there. They even have a guest Darbuka player!

When I say my dream is to hear an orchestra of instruments representative of the world’s instruments and not just the western regiment, crazy shit like this is what I’m talkin’ about.

I think one of my friends has one of those mooger foogers. I bet that could be fun with my Kurzweil or looping a vocorded sample through. Hmmm…. Need to finish up this web work so I can pound KHz again.

Two words: Tesla Coil Speakers

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Okay, that’s three words but this shit is so fucking crazy you lose your ability to count for a while.

They play Popcorn by Gershon Kingsley and the Dr. Who Theme by Ron Grainer (Orchestrated by Delia Derbyshire, who did drum n’ bass back in the 60s and 70s), both very appropriate early experimental instrumental electronic music selections.

Then there’s this 40 second gem that’s visually appropriate, even if it is full orchestral music.

At first I was like “Yeah yeah, Imperial March” and then I was like “WAIT a fucking second, that’s the Imperial March… PLAYED BY LIGHTNING!!!@133`123$#$%%!!!”

If you played through one of these as a rave, they’d never allow you to leave the stage. Seriously, who could follow up a performance like this that wouldn’t disappoint e-tards?

More appropriate music.

And thanks to the internet, we discover that these guys just have the BIGGEST coils they tour with. But they’re not the only ones.

That’s right, Bach via Tesla. I have a feeling if they played these at a Baroque-era church the entire town would show up and fall on their faces worshipping God’s mighty display (though we know it to be science); if they could pull themselves away long enough other towns might hear and eventually you’d have a whole religion based around this. Assuming they didn’t think it devil’s work and immediately burn you, that is. I leave you with something the girl will appreciate:

Now that’s how to perform electronic music

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

I really hope the video comes through the feed this time, otherwise the blog post is just going to look like random unrelated rantings and one will have to click through to the website to watch the video. Even if you have to do so, if you enjoy electronic music of any kind, watch this video. Even if you don’t enjoy electronic music, check this guy out.

Found on a blog called ‘deadact‘ – dedicated to making fun of dj’s who pretend to perform live with laptops playing sets that would go on to the end even if they had a heart attack clowning around smoking behind the keyboard. They like to give the occasional props to actually *good* artists.

robot makes music – nekotrax20

“Hey! That’s that song, the one they play on bagpipes!” Yeah, I started work on a re-work of Scotland the Brave quite a few years ago, but never got any farther than this. Maybe someday I’ll revisit the subject, it’s nice and copyright free as far as I know.
