ENVISION : Step into the sensory box

Monday, May 17th, 2010

My friend found this link over on HardOCP.Com. Since HardOCP was too lazy to click through to vimeo and do some machine translation, they had no clue wtf the video was for. It’s a commercial for Alcatel-Lucent.

ENVISION: Step into the sensory box. Under this name hides
immersive experience available by Alcatel-Lucent to its customers as
the last Mobile World Congress. An experience-based video
mapping developed by the agency and the Department SUPERBIEN New Media
Agency \ Auditorium. The public was invited into a cube and
discover an artistic vision of the tagline of the event:
Transforming the mobile experience.

Fuck Alcatel-Lucent though, this thing they bought is fucking amazing.

Michael Langan Mugshot

Michael Langan Mugshot

Independent filmmaker and commercial director Michael Langan is serious about his dedication to multimedia. With a degree in film and animation from the Rhode Island School of Design and a professional background in theater, graphic design and music, the bi-coastal artist makes great efforts to incorporate all of these elements (and more) into each of his projects.

Found this director a while back. ;) Glad to see he’s getting some recognition. I suspect we’ll see him going places. His website is Langanfilms. You can view select works there.

An Octopus’ technological love story

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

A.K.A. an octopus makes a student art movie.

If that’s not the craziest shit you’ve seen today (that’s not computer generated) …

via rachetcat and probably just about everyone else by now. Cuz an octopod thief getting taken on a joyride, man and beast in harmony is truly an amazing site.

PIXELS – i’d like to go that way

found by rachetcat of catagraph phame.

Watching skyscrapers tetris away, I mean, how does it get any better than that?

I was reading somewhere about the old guard of media. I think this proves that anything they could do, we can eventually on our desktops, and we can do it way fucking better. They have paychecks, we have passion.

Edit: Apparently I was completely fooled by the crap youtube quality, as my friend found the design company’s website. It looks like a small firm based out of Paris, but definitely not bound by old media standards. The video is an Atari commercial, but the concept is cool enough for all to be forgiven for the entertainment.

2nd update: was chatting with a friend on AIM when I came up with this gem: 5:16:13 PM n6ko: some atari exec is crapping his paycheck in delight

Just thought I’d share that with you. The video went from 370 hit yesterday to 190k+

WHAT IS MEMRISTOR?

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

THIS IS MEMRISTORRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Memristors are amazing. They can work with CMOS (your regular computer chips) and different scales, i.e. they can mix 100nm memristors with 45nm CMOS structures (intend to shrink to 5nm memristors with 45nm CMOS, as they are so awesome CMOS doesn’t really need to change any further to accommodate their awesomeness-imbuing powers), they can tolerate up to 20% failure rate. It’s damned near magic they way they work -- swapping oxygen atoms back and forth between a layer of TiO2 and TiO by changing voltage slighty, changing it’s resistive properties. The change is about .3nm thickness to either layer, depending on which way the voltage goes. And it will be much more efficient than regular transistor based computronics, you should be able to pull ten resistors out of a given design and replace them with one memristor. And as they’ll be able to pair 5nm memristors with 45nm CMOS, that means those ten resistors will actually hold enough space to put about 90 memristors. Holy crap, amirite? That’s a factor of 900X. Shittin your pants yet? This next decade is going to blow your mind.
