The NHS would kill Stephen Hawking

Or so this scare-news from the Investor’s Business Daily tried to imply, before correcting themselves that yeah, Stephen Hawking is actually a professor at Cambridge, UK, not a professor in Cambridge, Massachusetts an MIT. For the record, Hawking became ill and was taken care of by the British system before developing his brilliance. The locking of his body is what has freed his mind to become one of, if not the, best on earth.

The British have succeeded in putting a price tag on human life, as we are about to.

Vs. the lack of a price tag on an American life.

No, wait. It’s just a matter of who’s going to foot the bill. If you are the working poor, your life is worthless, there is a price tag on it that you cannot afford to pay. If you are the abjectly poor, the working poor and middle class pay for your healthcare via taxes. If you are old, the working poor and middle class pay for your healthcare via taxes.

If you are the working poor or middle class who don’t have a job that provides limited insurance, and can’t afford a private plan, you get a price tag put on your life.

It’s up to hundreds of thousands of dollars of crushing debt. And, it’s considered your fault for not being able to afford insurance for yourself (and all American insurance except the government sponsored plans have limited lifetime disbursements – they will stop paying for your care if it gets expensive enough.) Even if you get hit by some drunk rich bastard with full insurance, you’re probably going to end up with a crushing debt burden for getting hurt, and it will be seen as your fault.
