Because everything comes from China and is poisoned because that’s the only way they can cut costs further. I like how they say that ‘melamine is not approved to be directly added to food.’ Melamine is a fucking countertop. Formica? Yeah, that’s melamine. The shit killing babies in China that was added to formula? Yeah, that’s melamine. And if it’s just ‘not approved’ in this country instead of outright banned, well, I guess I’m not surprised in the least. We just recently banned lead in children’s toys’ paints. Yes, there was a legal allowable amount of a bioaccumulative toxin until it was found out that China dumping huge amounts of it into paints. And China took the lead and banned all lead in toy paints before the US did.
But then again, you can even be e. coli poisoned by organic spinach, so I guess we’re just all fucked (unless you washed it first or cooked it to up its vitamin content).
