We claim ever so much to be the greatest nation in the world, afraid of nothing. But we send our money to other countries and borrow it back from them to send them more, and even though we are fighting so-called ‘islamofascism’ we are afraid to offend muslims (South Park tried to air Allah, but we pussed out) while Denmark prints volumes of Allah-in-cartoon when one of their own is threatened. When one of our own is threatened with silence by Colombia over humor about their country, what do we do? Wring our hands and act like Colmes from Hannity and Colmes.
Here is the cartoon in question. Does this offend you or seem racist?
Was our 1st amendment right threatened the first time someone used the term “Colombian necktie” in a book or movie? Do other countries not poke fun at us, burn our flags, burn us in effigy when they’re really pissed? Sure, but we don’t, can’t, and shouldn’t be allowed to do anything about their right to do so.
Oh yeah, they’re not just mad. “$20 million suit by The Federation of Columbian Coffee Growers.” Give them a piece of your mind here. This is what I said:
Please don’t threaten our first amendment rights. I’ve never drunk your coffee, and I never will. But now I’ll actively talk shit on your company and brand because you have threatened one of my fellow citizen’s first amendment right. Your legal action has caused me to reprint the comic on my website, and I will encourage as many others to do so as I can, so your attempt at repression of free speech will only serve to make this comic a worldwide sensation.
You are welcome.
