Okay, so most people are familiar with ye good olde turntablisme, lots of scratching, battling, not really melodic except for varying scratch speed to sort of improvise melodies. Okay, check this shit out.
4 turntables, 4 mixers, some no doubt specially pressed vinyl to have the tones they need (or maybe they’re just that fucking good? a distict possibility), and actually making melodic eastern-europeanish inspired music. In fact, I bet they could do a live tarantella this way. I would find something like that gorgeous beyond belief (in fact anything that wasn’t based on 4/4 time I would consider revolutionary)
Violons, another of their pretty impressive live shows, though the camera work is a bit crappy in comparison to the first. After seeing these guys, I’ll never appreciate a scratch DJ the same way again. Or at all, actually. I’m glad I sold my turntables now, because anything I did with them after watching these guys would feel like an embarrassment.
