Figured out UV mapping. That should allow me to turn this skateboard design idea I had into an actual 3d scene that wont look quite so cheesy. I hope. Most of the lighting effects seen here are just the texture I copied out of photoshop in the aforelinked image to test this out with. I should have enough data in photoshop to generate an actual bumpmap i can use for rendering this out, which would be pretty neat. I figure I can fake having hundreds of these using the original photoshop data on a single model, then use chunks of that uber-UV map to create the blocks that will be seen as falling into the image.
Or something. Look for this design to be complete in a year or two.
