Windows Vista readyboost and defrag suck ass

Readyboost does nothing but fragment your files and take up gross amounts of time on boot-up. Worthless feature, do not want.

Defrag is quite frankly an insult to anyone not a drooling vegetable. It has one button, “start” and says “this computer may take picoseconds or millennia to finish defragmenting.” No actual status, no feedback, no amount of fragmentation. Oh, and it’s set to run once a week so you know that grinding you get on Wednesday morning and you’re wondering WTF is up? It’s because Windows is belatedly running the defrag that was scheduled for 12AM while your computer was, sensibly, off. It runs it in the background. If you start defrag and then close it… it stays running. You have to go in and turn on “view tasks from all users” to headshot it.

So I turned off ReadyBoost and went and got a program called ‘defraggler‘ that contains all the useful things left out of the Vista default defrag, allows you to defrag just some files instead of the whole drive, and is free.

Did I mention it contains all the useful information XP defrag used to have that was ill-advisedly taken out of Vista for some inane reason?
